I’ve been to Amsterdam many times over the past six years. My wife is a Dutch national so every Summer we spend at least two weeks in The Netherlands. Amsterdam is by far our favorite place to stay. My wife’s brother Jouke and his girlfriend live on a house boat along Prinsengracht, one of the city’s most beautiful canals built in the 17th Century during the Dutch Golden Age. The photo was taken from the deck somewhere around midnight just as the clouds began to obscure the moon. The effect was eerie and magical, creating an almost separate landscape from the canal below. Suddenly, I felt at home - that feeling you get that you are exactly where you ought to be, and that there isn’t any place else you’d rather be than right where you are.
